Lost Sparrows Healing Childhood Trauma Conference Lost Sparrows Healing Childhood Trauma Conference
A weekend of education, connection and community
September 5-6, 2025
Warsaw Community Church
Warsaw, Indiana

In 2021, Lost Sparrows hosted our first annual conference on developmental trauma. Two hundred and fifty people sat through a long, but encouraging and informative day of speakers addressing various issues surrounding trauma. We felt like it was a great start, but we could do better. So we are excited to share that we are hosting our second annual Trauma Conference this October 14-15 in Winona Lake, Indiana.

The challenges brought on by early adversity and childhood trauma are felt by every community. Whether you have experienced your own overwhelming traumatic events, or work with others that have trauma, or desire to learn more about complex developmental trauma, this conference will have something for you. We want to help parents support their children better, teachers to understand the complexities of their students, and other community members be empowered to help in the healing process. We hope you will join us for an encouraging and hope-filled weekend.

Education

Our focus on trauma education serves multiple purposes. First, we want to empower those with trauma to know and understand how their history has impacted them. Second, we want to equip community members with the knowledge and tools to help others that are in the healing process. All of us feel the sting of pain, loss, and brokenness on some level, and the more we understand its impact, the better we all will be.

Connection

A sense of interconnectedness and belonging are vital to the resilience of any person, family or community. We want our attendees to connect with each other in a meaningful way. We believe we’re all stronger when we are not isolated, but connected and sharing the experience of life together.

Community

It seems our world today continues to bring new challenges, and the impact of broken relationships and childhood adversity are felt by all of us. Our society is struggling with isolation and relational poverty. To overcome this, we must be intentional about building a community of support. We were created to live in, and be healed in relationships with others. As Bruce Perry says, “A healthy community is a healing community, and a healing community is full of hope.”

The following was shared by one of our conference attendees. We appreciate them sharing their thoughts.

Hands down, the BEST conference I’ve ever attended. It was well put together with engaging speakers, incredible vulnerability, gut-wrenching stories and stories of redemption. I had practical tools to take home and use with my daughter who is struggling with trauma. There was a great sense of community that I have never felt before. And most of all, God was right there with us, blessing us with knowledge, community, tools, His Love and His Guidance. I thought I was coming to this conference to be educated on trauma, I didn’t expect such a profound impact on my heart, my faith and my spirituality. God is so good!! Thank you for this conference!!

What other attendees had to say...

I attended for the first time last year as an active foster grandparent and school volunteer and was blown away with such great teaching and sharing. I honestly thought it couldn’t be as great again this year, but it was! Again, I learned so much practical, immediately useful information - for myself and for others. I left feeling better equipped, encouraged and energized to tackle challenges and enjoy victories. Thank you!
The Lost Sparrows Conference pours into participants spiritually as well as practically. As a foster child turned social worker, it validated my experience while also providing me tools and strategies to best support my foster families. It was raw and real. Foster care is messy, but it is also beautiful.
It was incredibly powerful to be with a community of people who "get it." To hear the similar pain and challenges others are experiencing in our calling to care for vulnerable children - to cry and laugh together when we have those "Aha! You too?" moments = priceless. Lost Sparrows is doing a fantastic job of creating and nurturing these safe and informative spaces for those doing this important work.
