Many of us didn’t grow up in homes where emotional intelligence (the feeling and regulation of ALL feelings) was encouraged. Rather, we were met with rationalization, teaching, dismissal, or distraction. In other words, we were taught to think or do our feelings. Yet, these approaches are just not effective; they miss the mark and leave us feeling overwhelmed, disempowered, shamed, and afraid of our feelings. Feelings come from the heart; they are energy in motion; they need to be felt. There is no way above, below, or around them, only through them. The paradox of feelings: when we feel them, they pass. And they leave us with information. They’re actually quite helpful. They are natural to the human experience; everybody feels feelings; whether we’re awake to them or not is another story. The information and supportive practice in this experiential workshop is intended to help you feel your feelings and consciously move through them with compassion and curiosity, so you may experience the magic they hold beyond the intensity of the moment. This practice of feeling our feelings and understanding them is called emotional intelligence (EQ). It is vital to our joy and our success in so many areas of life including work and relationships, and it is instrumental in healing. For parents, teachers, support providers, it is something that we model for children and coach them in, only after we’ve embraced the process personally.
